Summer may be coming to an end, but don’t worry! You still have time to make the most of the last few weeks. August is Family Fun Month, which is the perfect time to kick back and have a blast as a family in the final weeks of summer. Before your little one enters preschool, make sure to have the entire family take part in some of these fun-filled activities!

    Go to the zoo

The zoo is a terrific way for your family to bond while also introducing a whole new world of animals to your little ones. Enjoy lions, and tigers, and bears (oh my!) and ask your child what his favorite animal is on the way home. Animals like monkeys are always a favorite with children, and most zoos even have a petting zoo for your kiddos to actually interact with and feed, making it a day they will never forget.

    Ride the waves

Before the local pool closes for the school year, take advantage of the water while you still can! Another alternative in order to stay cool with the heat of summer is going to the beach. Pack your sunblock and beach towels and spend a day teaching your little ones how to swim or make sandcastles.

    Summer indoor fun

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean your family can’t have fun indoors as well. On days when it’s just too hot, get creative indoors with living room camping. Make a pillow fort inside or even build a tent in the backyard and spend the night under the stars. You can watch a fun movie or roast marshmallows, and your kids won’t even feel like they’re in their own back yard.

Take advantage of the last few weeks of summer by celebrating Family Fun Month! Any of these ideas will be a blast for the entire family and help you create lifelong memories.

Summertime is filled with fun and freedom, but it can also come with hours of boredom. Instead of sitting your preschooler in front of the TV all day, spend the day doing some arts and crafts. Arts and crafts are a great, affordable way to both have fun and spark the artistic, creative side of your child.

    Tie Dye Shirts

One of the more traditional crafts, making tie dye shirts, is unique and fun because the end result is something you can wear over and over again. How many kids can say they’re wearing their artwork?

    Make a family tree

This is an interactive way to familiarize your child with your family history, and there are so many different ways to do so! Cut out a large tree with paper and add leaves for each family member, or make it a finger painting project where fingerprints of different colors represent your family.

    Sock Puppets

A little imagination and some googly eyes can go a long way! Have your child decorate their own puppet with yarn, eyes, or anything else they want, and then put on a puppet show for the neighborhood. This not only entertains your kids for hours, but also gets rid of old socks!

    Colorful sand necklaces

You can buy plastic bottle necklaces that come in different shapes like hearts or stars, along with various colors of sand at the dollar or craft store. Put down some newspaper first or go outside and fill the necklaces with as many colors as your little ones can fit—along with their tie-dye shirts, your preschooler will be the most creative kids in the neighborhood!

  • How to Enjoy Summer Indoors with Preschool Children

When summertime arrives, preschoolers will love to spend their day in the sun. Here are some fun ideas to keep them happy indoors when the sun is just too hot to bear. If your little one just insists on staying outside, you can always put up a hammock in the shade, but try to use these activities to keep them safe from sunburn.

Play carpet lava with your preschooler.

This game seems to be naturally present in the brains of all preschoolers. Almost all kids play this at some point in their lives without being taught! Encourage your little one to leap from spot to spot while avoiding pillows and toys that are scattered randomly on the floor. If you’re playing outside, bring out folded picnic blankets to spread out as safe havens from the “lava.”

    Preschoolers love to pop bubbles.

Be ready to blow bubbles for hours on end. Preschoolers rarely get tired of popping bubbles that float through the air, and you’ll probably hear “blow a big one!” more times than you care to. Invest in a bubble machine if your little one really appreciates the art of bubble-popping. The giggles and squeals from your child will be well worth it.

Paper airplanes and finger paint fun for your preschooler

Paper airplanes and finger painting are two things that won’t fail to bring a fun time with your preschooler. Find cool ways to fold your paper airplanes, and try out different styles to see which flies furthest! Use finger paint to decorate your paper airplanes with your little one’s favorite colors, and let your planes fly with style.

If you try all of these and your preschoolers gets a little too antsy to stay inside, just turn on the water sprinklers, and fill up some water balloons to enjoy short bursts of time in the sun together.

Summer is just around the corner, and you’re probably wondering what your family is going to do for summer 2017. We have some things to keep in mind as you search for places you could take your preschooler to soak up the summer sun.

Check out local summer attractions for preschoolers.

Summer is an awesome time to visit all the local attractions that could interest your little one. Check out any local museums, and look for exhibits that could interest a preschooler. If you visit an art museum, you could try to paint pictures like the ones that you saw when you get home! See if you can think of fun activities that will help your child remember the things they saw on exhibit. Draw pictures, tell a story, or make a craft out of the fun things you spot together.

Pick places that parents and preschoolers would enjoy.

It would be fun for your preschooler to run around on a sprinkler pad all day, but parents might not think that sprinkler pads sound that exciting. You could think of another option, like boating or swimming, that everyone could enjoy together. Your little one will have the most fun when mom and dad are having a lot of fun too.

Being together as a family is more important to your preschooler than a fancy vacation.

It would be fun if we could all plan two-week cruises to an exotic island every summer for family vacation, but sometimes, that’s just not that practical. Remember that summer is a time that the whole family can be together, and sometimes just a day at the lake with a fishing pole, lawn chairs, and a picnic lunch make for more fun. Summer doesn’t have to be fancy—just take some time to break away from scheduled life and enjoy the company of family.

Chilly winter temperatures have gone away, and springtime sunshine is here to stay. With warmer weather comes the opportunity to spend more time outdoors, enjoying all that nature has to offer. Be sure to stay safe and healthy during any outdoor activities with these tips.

When taking your preschool child to playground…

If you’re looking to get some energy out or enjoy sunshine and fresh air, consider taking a trip to the local playground. Make sure to keep a close eye on your little ones (especially if it’s crowded), or even walk with them if they’re too young to explore the playground independently. Remind your preschoolers to wash their hands after touching playground equipment and being exposed to many germs.

Or visiting a local dog park…

You can bet you’ll come across a handful of people walking their dogs when visiting your local park or taking the kids for a walk. Teach your children to always ask the handler for permission before approaching his pet, and be aware of body language signs indicating that the dog may not be receptive to strangers at the moment.

    Wear sunscreen.

Temperatures are heating up, and so is the need for sunscreen! When searching for the right product, look for sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. You can even purchase a moisturizer with built in SPF for added protection. Whether you’re having a pool day, or simply spending time outdoors, sunscreen is a must.

    And stay hydrated!

One of the most important things to remember is to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water, go for a swim, or whip out some fruity popsicles for a refreshing treat. Remember to stay cool while staying safe this spring.

    Make Bunny Chow.

Your preschooler can munch on this tasty treat all week long. Begin by microwaving 1 cup of white chocolate chips, ½ a cup of peanut butter and ¼ cup of butter on high for one minute. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and pour the mixture over a bowl of Chex cereal (or any similar cereal of your choice). Add 1½ cups of powdered sugar and mix until the cereal is coated to your liking. Toss in some egg-shaped chocolate candies, and munch away!

    Craft DIY Bunny Ears.

For this fun furry craft, you’ll only need three items: a metal headband, white or baby pink pipe cleaner, and scissors. Start at one end of the headband and begin wrapping it with pipe cleaner until the entire headband is covered. Next, it’s time to create some ears. Cut off two long strands of pipe cleaner, equal in length. Attach the strands to the top of the headband at your desired width apart. Once you’ve decided on how tall you want your ears to be, fold the second half of the pipe cleaner down and attach it to the headband. Hoppy crafting!

Have an Easter cookie decorating party.

Purchase bunny or oval-shaped cookie cutters, sugar cookie dough, pastel blue or pink icing and sprinkles at your local grocery store. Together, you and your little ones can create tasty Easter treats shaped like eggs or little bunnies.

These three activities are ideal for unleashing your kiddos’ creativity or baking some sweet treats to nibble on as Easter Sunday approaches. Hop to it and have a wonderful Easter!

Did you know that though Donald Trump is considered to be our 45th president, he is actually the 44th since Grover Cleveland was elected for both 22nd and 24th presidencies? Here are 5 more fun facts:

Did you know that the teddy bear was named after Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip? A company then capitalized on the idea, and created and produced a loveable version of bears, and named them Teddy Bear, in honor of Theodore Roosevelt.

Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was the tallest president at 6’4”, and was a foot taller than James Madison who measured in at the shortest president? It has been said that Madison never weighed over 100 pounds. That’s about the size of an average 12-year-old!

Did you know that President Jefferson had two bear cubs that were given to him by Lewis and Clark that he kept in a cage on the lawn and would occasionally walk? Our presidents liked bears! Can you imagine taking two baby bears for a walk?

Did you know that Ulysses S. Grant was once given a speeding ticket for $20 before cars were even invented? He got the ticket because he was riding his horse and buggy too fast! How fast do you think he would have been going to get a ticket? It couldn’t have been over 10 miles per hour.

Did you know that our first eight presidents weren’t even American citizens? George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, and Andrew Jackson were all British subjects. It wasn’t until Martin Van Buren was elected that America had her first American-born president.

Did you know any of these fun facts about them men who have served as American presidents? Share these with your preschooler to get the conversation going. There is a lot that we can learn from our 44 presidents!

Build a snowman out of felt! Cut the snowman out of white felt, and stick it on the wall. Then, cut out all the buttons and the carrot nose, and whatever other accessory you can think of, and then let them stick the pieces on the snowman body. Felt sticks to felt, so they can remake the snowman as many different ways as they can imagine!

Make cookies because then you can have your fun and eat it too! You can make this process as extravagant as you’d like. You could make cut out cookies, and then decorate them with fun-colored icing, or you can make simple drop cookies if you want to be able to eat them in a hurry.

Glue Velcro dots on the end of Popsicle sticks and let them make shapes out of them. Connect the sticks with the Velcro, and they can make anything that can be made out of short lines. The only limits are the number of Popsicle sticks! See if they can make their name out of them and make it an educational game!

Cherish these quiet winter days and make the most out of the time that you have together. If you use up these ideas too, try reading a good book together and make some hot chocolate to go along with those cookies, and just enjoy spending time together.

This winter might be long and cold, but there are plenty of things to do with your preschooler. Children are easily amused with the simplest things—we wish that were true for us sometimes!

To better enjoy this winter season, we’ve found a list of fun activities you might be able to do with your child.

The blog No Time for Flash Cards has a list of twenty-five activities you can do with your child during the break!

    Snow Painting

If you get any snow this year, one activity that would be super fun and easy—and one that gets your child’s creativity outside rather than on your living room wall—is painting in the snow!

All you need is paint and snow. Pretty simple. And then let your kids have the time of their lives! Instead of the paint ending up on your walls, they end up in biodegradable snow. Just make sure they keep it on the snow and not their clothes.

    Snowflake Craft

This one is equally easy—a snowflake for toddlers! All you need is cotton balls, paper, and glue. (Be careful with that last ingredient.)

Paint a star of glue on the paper, sort of like an asterisk. Then, add the cotton balls on the parts with the glue, and there you have it! A snowflake as unique as all the others.

    Hole Punch Snowflakes

Another kind of snowflake just requires paper. You remember the ones you made as a kid, right? Well, now it’s time to pass on the tradition.

Take some paper and fold it up a few times. Grab some scissors, or a hole puncher, and cut little shapes along the seams. Then, when you unfold it you’ll find a magical snowflake appearing. Your toddler will be amazed.

Before the weather gets unbearably hot (as we know it will in the TX summer) get outside with your toddler or preschooler and go on a fun family picnic! While the idea of having small children in wide open spaces may sound too exhausting, you can eliminate some of the stress with good planning. Anytime you leave the house with your kiddos, a great rule of thumb is to keep the outing as simple as possible. Cramming too many activities into one afternoon can lead to grumpy children and an exhausted mom.

    1. Location, Location, Location – When deciding where to picnic start by doing it at a familiar place. You could even start in your own backyard or at a friend’s house. Being familiar with your surroundings will give you peace of mind to be able to enjoy yourself. Once your kids are older or whenever you are more comfortable, venture out to a local park or zoo for your picnic festivities.

    2. Bring a Friend – Children almost always do better when they have friends to play with. Even introverted children appreciate the company of another child to play with outside. Being outside is the perfect place to spark imagination so having a friend explore with your child makes it even more fun! Plus, having another adult to watch the kiddos means you will have a chance to talk to a grown-up and have another set of eyes looking out for your child as you look after theirs.

An Easter Egg Hunt can be a fun event for the whole family, but did you know it can also be an educational opportunity for your child? Here are six creative ways your child can learn through an egg hunt:

    1.Toddlers Can Learn Colors

Before letting your toddler loose to find as many plastic eggs as possible, tell your toddler only to collect a specific color or colors of eggs. This will help your toddler distinguish between different colors and make the game more challenging!

    2.Toddlers Can Learn Shapes

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, fill plastic eggs with different shaped objects. After the eggs are all found, reward your child for naming each of the shapes found in his or her eggs.

    3.Preschoolers Can Learn Numbers

If you’re creating your own egg hunt, use a permanent marker to number the plastic eggs before hiding them. Challenge your children to find the eggs in order from 1 to 20, or 1 to 100 if you’re that ambitious!

Instead of responding by saying “You’ll do it because I said so” or “Don’t ever talk to me like that!” there are other ways to help your child learn to disagree with you respectfully. The best way to stop back talk is to provide your child with some independence – but within your own limits. Kids of all ages need a sense of personal power to make their own choices and express their differences in opinions with parents. When parents make all the decisions for them, children naturally want to lash out, and so they do — with words and sometimes, physical aggression.

So how can parents teach their children to disagree respectfully? Read the full article here: How to Stop Back Talking Without "Because I Said So"

There have been studies conducted regarding the benefits of introducing a second language to your child while he or she is in preschool. These studies indicate that your preschooler stands to gain a number of benefits from having a second language introduced early on. Below, we explore some of these benefits.

Preschoolers are more adept at learning new languages than adults

Preschoolers between the ages of two and three years are starting to recognize important speech patterns to which they have been exposed since birth. Therefore, it is only natural that your child would be able to pick up on the patterns and unique sounds offered by other languages. Studies have shown that our ability to pick up different phonetic pronunciations is at its peak before the age of three.

    Appreciation of other cultures

By exposing your child to a second language, you give your child the ability to communicate with people of other cultures. You are also teaching your child valuable lessons in appreciating and respecting other cultures that may be present in your community. In today’s global environment, this provides your child with a distinct advantage.

It reinforces a greater understanding of your child’s birth language

The best time for your preschooler to learn another language is when he or she is learning about his or her own birth language. Learning a second language can help a child better understand their birth language. When your preschooler learns about a concept in a second language, it helps cement what he or she has already learned in the first language.

A growing child must have the proper nutrition for the body and mind to develop in the right way and without problems. Poor nutrition is a leading cause of children not doing well in school. Therefore, you must ensure that you provide your child with all the nutrients needed to support healthy growth. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City discusses some aspects of healthy nutrition for your child. Remember that you should always check with your physician before making any changes to your child’s diet.

    Natural foods are better

Natural food is always better for your day care child. Natural food, by definition, is food that has not been processed and, therefore, still contains a substantial amount of nutrition. While convenient, most processed food generally has other ingredients added and some of these additives might not be healthy for your child. Generally, processed food does not contain the necessary nutrients and minerals that fresh, natural food can provide.

Provide a wide variety of food

For your child’s optimal health, it is important to provide a wide variety of food. You can choose vegetables, fruits, rice, pasta, fish, chicken, cheese and milk. Other proteins can include meat or different types of beans. Be creative to widen the range of foods your child will eat. You also need to encourage your child to drink plenty of water during the day.

    The need for snacks

Children of day care age are growing rapidly and they need a tremendous amount of fuel to promote this development. Keep a variety of fresh and healthy snacks available so that your child does not run out of energy. This is particularly important if your child will be in a learning environment. A child with lots of energy will be focused for learning.

As your child grows and develops you will observe that he or she will go through various notable stages of development. Each child moves through these at different times, although every child will ultimately go through them. As a parent you will need to ensure that healthy development happens from start to finish. We will explore the various stages of brain development and how you can help with daycare, preschool, and learning at home.

    Sensorimotor stage

During the first two years a child will be enjoying the sensorimotor stage, where he or she will try to physically interact with the surrounding environment. During this important process a child will try to touch many objects to learn how they feel, and may even suck or chew on them. This is how your child is learning about tactile senses, material properties and very basic cause and effect. Do not be concerned if your child has an oral fixation, and is utilizing every sense in order to learn effectively.

    The Preparation stage

The next stage is preparing your child for attending daycare, or similar child care. The child will begin to use the language heard in the home, and will start to understand object permanence. Learning that objects do not simply disappear when not visible, a child scurries about, utilizing this newfound realization. A great way to promote this is to play a game of hide and seek.

You will certainly want to find your child the ideal daycare or preschool environment where he or she can continue to learn and develop, at a developmentally appropriate pace. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City, Texas offers excellent child care services designed to allow your child to learn, grow and develop in a safe, secure and academically-conducive learning environment. When it comes to preschooland child care environments, at Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City, Texas we make it our passion to know everything we can. This has, in the past, always yielded excellent results. We strive to go above and beyond the stock standard adequacy and ensure each child we teach reaches greatness. Many parents often ask, “What makes some preschools better than others?”

    The simple answer

The simple answer is that some preschools offer a better curriculum than others. Teachers and the learning environment often play an even more important role. But what makes some preschools truly great is how they combine the many various aspects of child care to create an environment that perfectly caters to each child’s individuality. In essence, the short answer is everything, but let’s consider why these various aspects make a difference.

    The more insightful answer

The learning environment in which a child is taught invaluable life lessons is critical in ensuring each child learns effectively, safely, and in a way that the child will retain these important lessons. Essentials in these environments include props for imaginative play, creativity outlets where children can express themselves, sufficient activity and exercise space, and teachers that demonstrate a real understanding for each child as an individual. When all of these essentials are combined, you get the ultimate learning environment where play, learning, and healthy fun merge to create an optimal place for growth and development.

Trust Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City, Texas to provide your child with a learning environment that offers all of the above-mentioned essentials and more. This, coupled with our excellent AdvancED™ accredited program, ensures your child will achieve the academic success in preschool that will be perpetuated into higher learning and adulthood. Infants are often fascinated by the world around them. They constantly survey their surroundings in wonderment, giggling with delight at just about anything. Their inquisitiveness is the foundation for early learning, and childcare experts encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity to combine an infant’s excitement with early learning development. Kids ‘R’ Kids of Missouri City offers a few tips to make the most of this important time.

    Moving things around

When you observe your infant pushing toys around or throwing building blocks, this is not just infant behavior and being messy. What it actually signifies is that an infant is learning how actions impact his or her environment and that an infant can control what surrounds them.

Create a fun obstacle course for your baby to learn coordination and movement

Once your infant becomes more mobile and has increased movement of the arms and legs, creating an obstacle course for a baby to navigate introduces them to early problems solving skills. Also it teaches them how to maneuver their little bodies around objects, which develops early coordination skills. Infant child care experts encourage obstacle courses as a way to enhance both fine and gross motor skills.

    Instilling a love of reading

Reading to your baby once they begin saying those first words, reinforces developing language skills. Reading also helps to increase an infant’s attention span, develop vocabulary, and improve creativity. Establishing an early interest in books will promote reading and potentially a future love of learning.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City, Texas prides itself by offering premier child facilities for all of our learners. Understanding the importance of the developmental stages and timeline of your child’s brain, we have gathered useful information and facts on brain development.

Synapses and parts of the brain

The brain is made up of the following parts:

    • Cerebrum
    • Cerebellum
    • Limbic system
    • Brain stem

Brain development hinges on the connection among neurons which are called synapses (Synapses overproduction). Every child activity including, eating, breathing and sleeping, is governed by synapses. These synapses organize the brain by forming pathways that connect the parts of the brain which allow your child to do everything he is able to do.

Our brain development program in Missouri City, TX is a comprehensive program that is designed to maximize your child’s learning potential. We use teaching methods to support neural pathways that will enhance your child’s social-emotional, language and cognitive abilities.

Our philosophy “Hug First, Then Teach” revolves around teaching each child in a safe and secure environment. This plays a vital role in brain development. Our learning stations are filled with stimulating materials, allowing each child to use all sensory experiences, such as sight, smell and touch. These activities send direct information to the brain, boosting brain development. We are dedicated to providing the best child care services in Missouri City.

When dealing with a misbehaving preschool child many parents do not understand why the child is misbehaving, mainly because a small child cannot always explain himself clearly. A parent who disciplines a child without finding out the underlying cause of the negative action does not help the child understand and change their behavior. Parents need to help their child find out why they are misbehaving, and help him or her to understand and change that behavior. In this way, a child learns how to control their behavior and develop self-confidence.

    Over-stimulation in today’s environment

A child may misbehave for a number of reasons, such as being hungry or thirsty, being overly tired, or being exposed to too much stimulation in a short period of time. Over-stimulation is very common today, and children have not developed the filters that can block out noises, light or other distracting factors. Your child may not know when to put down the video game or walk away from the television. A preschool child may be over-involved in technology or, when playing with other children, may not understand overly competitive behaviors which might be frustrating.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City, Texas, we have many years of experience in successfully dealing with behavioral issues in young children. We also have highly qualified teachers, and all of the necessary tools to help your preschooler or toddler understand and change their behavior.

As a parent, the health and safety of your infant is of paramount importance. This period in your child's life is one of exploration, learning and development as well as vulnerability. Keeping your infant safe and healthy means a lot of work for parents and caregivers. Here are some common concerns and how to address them:

    • Immunizations: Due to fragile immune systems and serious diseases such as polio, tetanus, mumps, rotavirus and others, children are immunized. These are given according to a specific schedule from birth up to age 18. If you have any concerns about immunizing your child, speak to your pediatrician for advice.
    • Second-hand smoke: Dangerous to your child he/she will be exposed to more than 7,000 chemicals through secondhand smoke. Many of these chemicals are toxic. Health effects include ear infections, respiratory issues and asthma attacks. Smoking around infants may also lead to heart disease and lung cancer during their adult years.
    • Home safety: Infant-proofing your home and yard is a considerable step towards the health and safety of your child. Some important aspects include covering electrical outlets, removing choking hazards, locking away poisons/cleaning fluids and blocking stairs with gates. Infant-proof the yard by locking away gardening equipment, fence in or cover the pool and remove poisonous plants.
    • Travel safety: Your infant requires different safety measures to make sure that he/she is protected while in a moving car. Rear-facing car seats of the correct size are recommended for infants under one year or 20 pounds. Research a high-quality brand that will suit you and your infant's needs. All family members and caregivers should know how to install the seat correctly.

If you are looking for a company that can assist you in infant proofing your home, contact Baby Safe Homes for quality products and installation services.
