Our Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Missouri City curriculum is founded upon the educational theories of Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Sara Smilansky. Our curriculum decisions are guided by these three educational theorists for an age appropriate learning experience for children. The Kids ‘R’ Kids curriculum is designed so that children learn through peer and teacher interaction. This experience happens in a creative and safe environment based on Vygotsky's theories of the development of the young mind. Our curriculum scaffolds teaching strategies for every classroom age grouping using Piaget's framework of proposed stages in a child's developing ability to learn. Finally, at Kids ‘R’ Kids, we believe in Smilansky's teachings of learning through play. Our rich curriculum includes a plethora of playtime both outside and in the classroom, giving each child the freedom to create, learn, and explore their world.
These child development theorists all agree that young children learn best by taking an active part in constructing meaning from the world around them. A different proponent of educational constructivism is the Montessori method of teaching. Though the Montessori method is similar in philosophy to Vygotsky, Piaget, and Smilansky's methods, the Montessori approach to education has several unique differences. Below is a comparative chart between Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy’s teaching philosophy and those attributed to the Montessori teaching method for young children. For additional clarity on the differences in the two methods and the advantages that we offer, feel free to contact us or tour our Learning Academy.
